Gear Necessities: the release of Fujifilm’s X-T2

Have you heard the latest from Fujifilm? They’ve just released the X-T2 mirrorless digital camera, and it’s got a raft of features you may just get a little excited about.

First off the bat, with the X-T2, you won’t put your back out lugging around a hefty body — weighing in at only 507g (including memory card and battery), this little camera makes for the perfect companion when you’re out and about. It’s also dust-resistant, water-resistant, and capable of operating at temperatures as low as -10-degrees Celsius.

If you find yourself drawn to subjects that tend to move quite rapidly and suddenly, like you’d find in sports photography or wildlife photography, the autofocus and electronic viewfinder performance — which now continuously tracks a moving subject, and is capable of displaying up to 100 frames per second — have been improved upon in order to capture movement. You can also customize your settings to optimize the autofocus characteristics to relate to the movement of the specific subjects you’re shooting. Also, the future has arrived! For the first time in the X Series, this new model supports 4K video recording — so you may already have the 4K-capable TV, but now you can get the device to create footage to watch on your TV!

The X-T2 can have any of the 22 Fujinon lenses mounted to it, so you have the option to branch out to using wide-angle lenses all the way through to ultra-telephoto lenses — and they’re all designed to work at their optimum level in conjunction with APS-C sensors, of which the X-T2 features the 23.3-megapixel X-Trans CMOS III, promising the highest performance in the history of the X Series models.

Alongside the Fujifilm X-Pro2, the X-T2 is to be the X Series’ flagship model, providing high performance in the fields it excels in — portraiture, nature, and sports photography.
