Bayeux-Calvados Awards for War Correspondents

War photography contest opens

An annual war reporting awards programme is now calling on conflict photographers to submit images in the war photography category.

The 18th edition of the French-based Bayeux-Calvados Awards for War Correspondents will take place from October 3 to 9 this year, with submissions closing on June 10.

Photographers are being urged to submit a photographic report of eight to 15 images documenting a conflict or news event related to ‘the fight for freedom and democracy’, shot between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011.

The winning report will earn the Photo Trophy along with a cash prize of €7000 (about NZ$13,100) provided by Nikon.

For the first time this year the awards will also feature a Web Journalism category that will include both linear and interactive multimedia presentations.

The Nikon-sponsored Web Journalism Trophy winner will also receive a cash prize of €7000.

Other award categories cover television news, written press, radio reportage and long-form television projects.

A Young Reporters Award is also open to journalists up to the age of 28 and covers photography as well as television, radio and print.
