An initiative from Canon New Zealand has bankrolled the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation to the tune of $112,000, blitzing sales targets for 2009.

Canon donated ten dollars from every IXUS 80 IS camera sold to help the NZBCF promote awareness of breast cancer, provide information and education, fund research and support community outreach programmes for those affected by breast cancer. Over 11,000 of the pocket-sized cameras were snapped up by New Zealanders and were sold in a range of colours including pink.

“It just goes to show how effective fundraising can be when you match a quality, fun product to a worthwhile cause. With breast cancer affecting 1 in 9 people in New Zealand, it’s a reminder of just how important it is to capture memories,” said NZBCF Executive Trustee, Heather Shotter.

“Approximately 2,500 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in New Zealand, yet it affects the lives of so many more,” said Kim Conner, General Manager, Consumer Activities at Canon. “These women and their families are more than just our customers; they are also our mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, friends and colleagues.”
