EOS

Canon’s flagship EOS dSLR has received a welcome upgrade, with the 1D Mark IV adding HD video capabilities, the ability to shoot at 10 frames per second and improving on the AF system which proved a problem in the Mark III.

In an exclusive briefing Canon New Zealand assured D-Photo that any focusing issues noted in its predecessor have been solved in the new 45-point AF system with 39 cross-type points and sensitivity to f/2.8. In AI servo mode, AF has been improved for tracking slow-moving subjects during macro photography.

Along with 30fps HD video and improved AF system the 1D Mark IV adds increased ISO capabilities which can be expanded up to an enormous 102,400 in its a new 16.1 megapixel APS-H CMOS senor, Dual DiG!C 4 image processor. The new processor manages to capture up to 120 shots in a single burst at 10 frames per second.

Features commonly found on point-and-shoot compact cameras are increasingly being integrated into professional-level models, and the Mark IV is no exception, using Live View with Autofocus and Face Detection capabilities.

Durability has also been considered, with water and dust resistant measures employed at 76 separate points around the camera. Pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed, but the ID Mark IV is expected to drop in New Zealand this December for under $10,000.
