Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki.
Curated by Dr Zara Stanhope, Ann Shelton: Dark Matter looks into the Wellington photographer's 20 years of lens-based practice, uncovering the immense research that Shelton undertook in the process of creating her imagery. The exhibition showcases a selection of Shelton's past works, including images from the '90s that have never been seen. A new series, titled Jane Says, is also showcased, which features still-life images created by Shelton using plants that have historically been used by women medicinally to control bodily function. Shelton has said that her work offers new ways of looking at histories that have been manipulated and contrived in curious ways, exploring social, political, and historical contexts.
