1. Title: Two worlds
Artist/Photographer: Carolyn Miers
Camera: Not stated
Location: Not stated
Description: This is a composite of a photo of the sun reflecting in a pond, a group of roses and a recoloured butterfly (originally red). I’m calling it ‘Two worlds’ because it reminds me that I don’t belong in dark places.

2. Title: The Gate
Artist/Photographer: Mark Fox
Camera: Nikon D70
Location: Not stated
Description: Created in Photoshop CS3 using the photo of the door and three different shots of clouds.

3. Title: Star catcher
Artist/Photographer: Kim Falconer
Camera: Nikon D300
Location: Home
Description: I photographed some tinsel in the sun, added misty trees, duplicated layers of the tinsel and used the Eraser tool over the stars to have them show through. The star catcher arrived in bits from five different photos. The bright star in her hand was also selected from the tinsel and given a super-blast in Levels. Everything was tweaked and colour balanced.

4. Title: Weird Africa
Artist/Photographer: Lance van de Vyver
Camera: Not stated
Location: South Africa
Description: This photo is a blend of different animals from South Africa. There’s an elephant’s trunk and hind legs, frog, zebra, green turaco’s eye and haid feathers, impala’s ear, vulture’s body, chameleon’s tail and a buffalo’s horn for spikes. They were all brought together with a lot of copying, pasting, erasing and fine-tuning.

5. Title: Duck season
Artist/Photographer: Clive Copeman

Location: Not stated
Description: I combined the two photos in Photoshop and adjusted saturation, levels, brightness and contrast using layers. I also did some dodging and burning as well as applying distortion filters to create the reflection. My family thought I was nuts.
